I first heard about Audax cycling in 1999 when visiting my local bike shop, the now defunct Caves Cycles in Coorparoo, Brisbane, Australia.
There I met Dave Minter who was having his new S&S coupled bike checked before heading to France for the Paris-Brest-Paris 1200km randonnée. Dave talked about the “stupidly long” rides he was doing and I was intrigued.
However it was not until 2002 that I made the commitment to attempt PBP myself and it was a turning point in my life. It was a struggle, but the sense of achievement when I arrived at the finish is something I will cherish forever.
I moved to New Zealand in 2004 and have been enjoying the climate and fantastic scenery this place has to offer.
I am still searching for the perfect bike and have a clear idea of what I am looking for but no-one makes it so I will have to do it myself.
